American Handmade Feather Tree Ornaments
About Making Spun Cotton Ornaments
Spun cotton ornaments originated in Germany in the 19th century and were used to decorate goose feather trees. They were made by creative artisans in a cottage industry.
Today antique spun cotton ornaments are highly collectible. Although little information remains regarding how these ornaments were made, through years of research, trial and error, I've developed a method very near the original methods. A figure that measures 2-3" often takes several hours to complete.
When you purchase from the Spun Cotton Ornament Co., you are receiving a piece of history.

All of the artwork on this website is created by artist Arbutus Hunter. Arbutus has, over many years, researched and taught herself how to make spun cotton ornaments using the same methods as skilled artisans did over one hundred years ago.
She creates from her home/studio on quiet wooded acreage in beautiful northwest, Nevada. Her pieces can be found online on eBay, Etsy and the PFATT Marketplace and in person at the Halloween and Vine and Tinsel and Treasures shows.
